Defamation of Character

Anybody know about Desean Jackson, former wideout for the Philadelphia Eagles? Word on the street (and in the news), the organization believes he's "gang-affliated" and released him from the team a couple of days ago. I saw some pictures of him just chilling with Warren G and some other rappers from the West Coast just hanging. I didn't see any gang signs of any kind but I guess with the Aaron Hernandez (former player of the New England Patriots) case, who is in fact gang affiliated, is the new thing in the NFL. In my honest opinion, I think that he's in no way gang affiliated. Another word on the street is that the coach of the Eagles believes Jackson is not "all-in" with his ideology of how he wants the team to play. I guess he hasn't taken business management 101, nobody all the time is "all-in." I think this is racial profiling, signaling one person out for some reason (could there be something going on behind the scenes between these two parties, I wouldn't doubt it) and I don't think it's right. Now, when people talk about him, people may be questioning, is he another Hernandez-esque player down with the Bloods or Crips? Is he living the gangster life? It's hard to say but I believe he's not gang affiliated. I believe he's another dude being crucified but not as bad as Hernandez. This situation got me to thinking of this title, Defamation of Character:

Defamation—also called calumnyvilification, or traducement—is the communication of a false statement that harms the reputation of an individualbusinessproductgroup, governmentreligion, or nation.

Under common law, to constitute defamation, a claim must generally be false and have been made to someone other than the person defamed.[1] Some common law jurisdictions also distinguish between spoken defamation, called slander, and defamation in other media such as printed words or images, called libel.

Defamation is a serious thing and if someone wants to get gangster, take the party that's screwing up there public reputation and get a nice court settlement to make up for it. If Jackson is indeed not a gang member, I think he needs to get as much restitution from every party involved in this act of slander. I think when people slander or tell "half-truths" about another person (most of the time, telling people what they want them to know to destroy their reputation in another person's eyes), it's done maliciously. It's done to mess up somebody's business, family, friendships, and respect in society. If we look through the history books and see all the mess going on in the media, people are victims of slander all the time. Great poets and thinkers from the BC era were talked about and later condemned in public society. Look at people like Obama, Holder, and other folks, people try to mess up their position by telling half truths (which is a whole lie) about them. There's some people we know at our jobs going through defamation by others all the time. A lot of times, it's done out of jealousy and envy (just like Fat Joe would say, lol). It's done because that individual didn't want to get with the in crowd and decided to do things his or her way. It's crazy man and it's costly to the person who is on the receiving end. People everyday are called evil, devilish, rude, greedy, and the list goes on because people like to judge people before getting to know them or to know why they do or say certain things. It's crazy man. Hopefully, DeSean finds a new team and can start over again. It sucks that he'll have to rebuild his reputation but I think beating the Eagles as the opponent will suffice (sorry, this is making me want to jump ship and find another team other than the Eagles and America's worst team the Dallas Cowboys). All I know is, I feel what Desean is going through but he'll survive and those in America going through defamation right now, you'll survive, too. Like Jadakiss said, "We Gon' Make It!" - my friends!!!

Til next time, David "Defamed" Overton
