Closure

This week is about closure. It's about reaching a place where enough is enough to destructive habits. It's about coming to the "knowledge of self" ("Back to the one..." as the RZA says in "The Tao Of Wu"). It's about leaving the nest and to fly into the world of the unknown. Some of you that may read this and have spoke recently know what I'm talking about. I'm pretty sure word will spread of my impending "departure" and will have some great "fake church services." As I left a place today I reference as my saving grace ("Waco RO" 8/2012 to 2/2015), it was heartbreaking to leave some good friends, who I consider family, and talking some junk to those "Cowboys." It's going to be crazy in this next phase of my life and for my family as we make the transition to the "Land of Red Clay." We've been here (if you've read my other blogs, you'll know where we're @) for 13 bullets, 11 of them in "Alcatraz." 1 of them was a time of healing. The first bullet was spent deployed. We both made the mutual decision that it's time to venture out and see what this world has to offer. Some religious folks misquote the words of Christ, "what does it profit a man for him to gain the whole world and lose his soul?" Where I live at, the religious fundamentalists believe seeking to be rich, settled, and building a good life for yourself in a "secular world" is selling your soul to the devil. That's a lie. What Christ meant is that we shouldn't trade in our soul, our very essence, the knowledge of self, in exchange for something that isn't meant for you (or us), that will only pollute you, and eventually destroy you. That's what he meant and I'd like to hear the rebuttals (sorry, you'll lose, I'm the illest dude when it comes to "The Book"). Now with all this, I've come to closure. It's not easy and it's been a long time coming. The changes and transitions are still occurring within the next few months but that's what adulthood and career is all about. It's reaching you destiny and one day my "seeds" will look at us and say, wow, mom and dad are some OGs, triple OGs. Haha. It's hard though because I'm leaving some people behind in body but still connected in spirit.

So what's the point I'm trying to make here?

The point is, whatever issues, problems, or beefs you got in your life, bring them to a closure. After watching one of my favorite shows, a conversation on there was about bring closure to a situation. So, that's what I'm doing.

We all need closure, no matter our race, culture, or creed. Closure is the stepping stone to our success. It is the platform to our stake of life in this crazy world.

Till next time, my friends........Get Closure.........

What The Future Holds

It's a new year and of course, millions of Americans have made various new year resolutions, declarations, and one sentence cliches. It sounds very good to us, you know.

  • I'm going to do this year what I didn't do last year
  • I'm leaving behind what's happened last year and stepping out brand new this year
  • I decree and declare blessings over my life
  • I will not deal with any negativity this year
And the list goes on.....

But this is where The Big O (me) comes in, to "drop some science" or in the words of Red Foxxx, say   some things to get you to "dig the k-nowledge" on what this life is really all about. Many of us, I've said before, think these four bullets listed above will make their lives impenetrable to the "witty unpredictable" winds of life. Many of us think that God's blessings don't come with some storms along the road of life. Many of us are thinking and saying all these "great expectations" about what 2015 should bring in "our eyesight" yet, we are not God. Therefore, we don't know how this year will go. We plan have "vision parties", watch night services, hell, wild skirmishes on Bourbon Street, thinking life will be a sweet gentle breeze this year. Well, let me remind you of what 2014 brought us.

Cop killings. Innocents killed by cops. Republicans are back in control of the Senate. Gas prices are going down. More states approve gay marriage. Rick Perry's indicted. Two southern preachers got outed for spreading the AIDS virus to women in their congregations. ISIS (Al Qaeda) is back. Afghanistan drug trade (unbeknown to many Americans) is the number 1 reason why we're over there for the past 13 plus years. Obamacare is in full swing. The economy is getting a little bit better. Musical revolution is back in full swing. Sony gets hacked.

I named all of these to show us that life is very unpredictable and we humans don't like that. Many of us who are religious believe God is going to do that or this for us; praying (really commanding) the Creator to work for the created. Many of us who are negative think nothing good will come out of this year. Many of us who are optimists always see the greater and better. But I'm a part of a group called the realists, people who see the good and bad to keep a balanced view. So, what does the future hold for us in 2015? I don't know. I do know for myself, there are a few things I'd like to accomplish and things I want to say. Will I still deal with the b.s. this life will bring? Yes. I don't have any slogans. I don't have any cliches. All I have is faith within myself, my loved ones, and God that whatever happens, happens. Welcome to this thing called life. I hate to burst a lot of y'all's bubbles, but if I don't come with the truth then you'll keep on having your heads stuck in the clouds. Come on down to planet earth. Yes, enjoy the new year but know this, life is something else. I think God created life to show us that we don't have complete control over it, only He does. I've accepted that. I'm good. I do hope the future holds changes within some topics I will be addressing this year.

I do know I'm not holding no more punches on my opinions. One friend calls me the Blog Thug. I like that....

Well, that's all I have for today. Happy safe and balanced new year......

Til next time, GTG Overton....

Time To Come Out And Live

Now, David is not trying to get more views or attention for this post (mostly for the title). If you give me about 5-8 minutes, I will explain myself. More and more people from young to old are "coming out" (as the great song sang by Diana Ross, written by "Nard" and Nile Rodgers) as being gay. In my "religious days" I was preaching and teaching against homosexuality, just as any other "Christian minister" should do in his or her monologue in prison (oh sorry, church). Now, after my break out, my views have changed. No longer do I judge them, I love them, I accept them.
Better than that, I respect them. Why do I respect them? Because they are open and honest about who they are as a people. That's more than I say for myself and the millions (and millions-in The Rock's voice) of people on this planet. They're in Austin, in San Francisco, in the Big Easy, in Germany, they're everywhere giving the bird to stuck up, religious, judgmental, prideful, and masquerading humans pointing their fingers, shivering, and staring at them. Do I still cringe inside when I see two dudes kissing? Yes. Do I still have conflicting thoughts seeing girls looking like dudes? Yes. I'm still detoxing from the lavish American version of hypocritical Christianity. But I accept those people because they're human just like me. Each of us have a road we have to travel. I know mine in this point of my life is living that "vagabond life." Wandering, trying different things, researching different views, in search of the real David "Ruffin" Overton. I now believe God is in everything, everywhere, and in everyone. As I said before, who am I to judge someone else's "orientation?" I believe the point I'm trying to make here is that we all have "tendencies" about ourselves that are "frowned upon" in society. The question is, are we living our lives the way others are "telling us to live?" Or are we "stepping out on faith" to be what we are supposd to be? That's why I respect  the people "living out loud" as they can in the LGBT community. Now let me say this too, David ain't gay, I loooovee my chocolate delight by the name of Mrs. Overton. < I guess the whole scene with that man at the annual bull---- Cogic conference sparked this one off. > Be who you're supposed to be. Do what you're supposed to be doing. Only God can judge each of us and you'll be amazed at how many "religious" (judge mental) folks won't be joining the rest of us at the everlasting wedding party in heaven (Matthew 21:23-32-my favorite I used to shut religious folks up). -I'll be talking about this subject another time....

Well my friends, I've ran out of gas. I hope you enjoyed my tangent for today.

Til next time.....
